Standard skin barriers (also called ostomy barriers or wafers) are adhesive products designed to protect the skin around a stoma and securely attach ostomy pouches. They help prevent leakage and skin irritation by forming a seal between the pouching system and the skin. These barriers may come in flat or convex shapes and are made from hydrocolloid or similar materials that are gentle on the skin.
